Apologies for the delayed post but, Leipzig has kept us quite busy over the past few days. In fact, let's get you up to speed on all that we have done....
On June 9th, the Bach Choir and patrons had the amazing opportunity to attend a dinner with many notable representatives of Leipzig and Houston at Leipzig City Hall. One of the most memorable moments of the evening was coming across this gigantic chair in the entrance hall. Photo of Tony vs. Chair for effect and understand of what we mean!
That evening, we attended the opening concert of the BachFest Leipzig at Thomaskirche, with performances of Cantata 80 (A Mighty Fortress), and Mendelssohn’s Symphony 2, which incorporated orchestral, operatic, oratorio, and church chorale writing into one long but tremendous piece. Of course, a "selfie" was necessary.
Then, on the morning of June 10th, wrapping up a few AMAZING days, the Bach Choir rehearsed with the Leipzig Baroque Orchestra for our BachFest premiere tomorrow during the Sunday outdoor service. Works to be performed include:
Bach’s Cantata 16, Der Geist hilft, and Copland’s Sing Ye Praises, which we recently previewed in Houston during our Bach Vespers on June 4.
As you can see, keeping track of the day of the week has become quite difficult. However, we promise to be back with more for you tomorrow. And now.... back to rehearsal we go!
